Question: News and journalism most often reflect the views of men as it is a patriarchy. Do you feel that you've made a breakthrough or somehow contributed to women by obtaining the position as a host and allowing your perspective to be seen and heard?

Answer: You know I don't know if I've paved the way for anybody. I'm very lucky a lot of the paving was done by people like Barbara Walters, Diane Sawyer, women who really broke through into the field. Being a blonde anchor now is pretty common. I hope that young women will look at me and "ah, she must have a great job". I think as a woman you have to prove yourself a little bit more, especially in news. You have to really be up on stuff. Men are much more credible a lot of times because they have deep voices. That is one of the reasons why a lot of female anchors don't have these high-pitched squeaky voices because they have to sound, in a way, like men because they are more believable that way. You know, I would love to say, "I've made a breakthrough", but I don't think I have. If you are good at what you do whether you are a man or a woman it can be impressive and hopefully people will look at that and say, "She does a nice job. I'm going to use her as maybe a role model."
