[Interview With Jim Cuddy]

[Q] You've been talented enough to be part of a successful band, Blue Rodeo. All in Time is your first solo album; is there much more freedom doing an album on your own?
[A] Well, there's more freedom in that I'm the boss, and what I want is usually what's going to happen. Working at a group, you throw things into the group, and you control and guide things to a certain extent, but not entirely. Each one has it's advantages. It's great to work in a group that knows each other, because those band members know how to play together, and you don't have to tell anybody anything; you just start playing. With my own record, I tried to approximate that as much as possible by using friends; people that although I hadn't played with them, I had known them for a long time, and we had a nice easy communication; I anticipated that I'd come to some junctures where I wouldn't know how to communicate what I wanted; and I wanted there to be friends around, so it wouldn't turn out bad.
